Google+ & YouTube Integration

Friday, November 4th, 2011 | Permalink

There have already been a few connections made between Google+ and YouTube as the social network has released new features but YouTube itself has now been integrated on your personal home page. Look to the top right corner of your stream and you should be able to see the well known YouTube logo, clicking this will open a search bar allowing you to find videos of your choice without ever having to leave Google Plus.

Click the logo and the search bar will expand horizontally.

After hitting the play button a window will pop up with a playlist of videos related to your search term. The interface / list is nowhere near as detailed as the standard YouTube site we are used to but definitely serves it’s purpose if you are looking to share videos of a certain topic with others. A +1 button is located to the right of the video title while the now familiar green “Share” button is in the top right corner of the video. This gives you the opportunity to instantly share videos within Google+ rather than having to navigate to YouTube and back again (not that it’s too much of a task).

Like what you see? Share it!

I am going to be 100% honest and admit that I probably won’t use this feature as I like to view the comments associated to a video and also prefer the larger selection offered on the main YouTube site rather than this reduced list of thumbnails and video times.  I think it’s great that Google are integrating as many products as possible though!

Have you guys been using this or do you plan to?

Connect Google+ with YouTube

Some of you may have already come across the ability to connect various social networks (including Facebook and Twitter) to YouTube. The idea is that when you perform an activity on YouTube (comment on a video for example) it’s then relayed to the social networks you have connected to and shared to all your friends / followers.

Google+ has been added to the list of networks meaning that you will now be able to share all (or parts) of your YouTube activity with your Google Plus circles too! Google’s social network is already being used as a picture / video wall for certain users so this should be a welcomed feature by many. It’s easy enough to connect the two products owned by Google, simply visit the link below while signed into your Google account -

Google+ Hangouts & YouTube Sharing

So some of you may or may not have seen the new “Start a Google+ Hangout” feature added to YouTube depending on whether you are a regular sharer of video clips. At first glance it is impossible to see, but click the “Share” button towards the base of the video screen and you will see the Google+ link under “Watch with your friends.” Clicking on this link presents you with a pop up window leading to a Google+ Hangout, with the YouTube video placed in the middle of the screen allowing up to nine friends to talk and chat about it as it plays.

A Perfect Marriage

So why is this cool I hear you ask? Well gone are the days of trying to enjoy videos at exactly the same time as another friend; it may sound sad but I used to try and sync the video time with a buddy by pressing play at exactly the precise moment (yet it never really worked). This may seem unnecessary for 30 second clips of people falling over but the idea of being able to watch and enjoy full TV episodes with nine over friends across the world seems pretty convenient to me. You’ll no longer have to say, “Did you watch…?” as you can simply invite them to join you and discuss it at the same time!

So does anyone want to watch Rebecca Black’s “Friday” with me?
